Benjamin is letting Edwin know that the publisher never sent a copy of "Children of Bondage" for you. Thier was a problem with the postman. Mr. Partridge could'nt publish the amount of books and their is no copy. I have my copy amd hopefully it will be published by Dec. 10th. I used a photo by Pirie MacDonald of you. Thier will be 20 others in the book. It will be a handsome volume.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
